In life, you can’t know real happiness without haven’t been unhappy. Being unhappy too is part of being alive too and it’s ok.
But, the problem is that we deny that unhappiness is part of defining true happiness. Living in such self-denial triggers so many junctions of unhappy moments.
Happiness is hard to explain but I’m sure we’ve experienced it at some point in life. It is our right to be happy and to pursue happiness.
Being happy and feeling fulfilled is the state we all want to be in; we strive for happiness and to be happy. And these moments are within our grasp but sometimes they can be out of reach or difficult to maintain.
Happiness isn’t something that’s already made, it comes from your actions and reactions in everyday life, and only you make it happen for yourself.
Taking out time to know, observe, study yourself, understand your happiness switch, and learn to trigger it is just how you can be happy and maintain that happy feeling.
Looks simple? Of course, it is simple t be happy in life.
Some of the reasons why you need to be happy
- Positive mood
- Boost your energy levels
- Self-fulfillment

- More self-confidence
- You get to be more creative
Simple ways to achieve self-happiness in life
Gratitude
Being grateful is the easiest way to trigger and awaken a happy and joyful heart to reflect on your success (no matter how tiny they may seem), blessings, and achievements regularly.
Establish a daily routine, where you take time to remind yourself of the grace, goodness, and benefits you enjoy. Setting aside some time to appreciate people in your life, your attributes, and the everyday events you find yourself in.
Focus on your achievements and strengths rather than beat up yourself on past mistakes and failures. Looking at your life and accomplishments with more hope and appreciation and of course, don’t forget to love “YOU”.
Bible reading
The Bible is not just a book, it is a testimony of all the glory of God and His son Jesus. There is something self-fulfilling when you read some stories about the people of the past and how God saw His people through all difficult times in their age.
Bible reading is not a marathon, start small and start from the beginning of the old testament or new testament.
Take it slow and see the wonderful effect on your mood, you feel the calmness, joy, and happiness within and around you.
Set goals
Setting goals and achieving them can be a very constructive routine to maintain a happier and very healthy lifestyle. When a set goal is achieved, you’ll find happiness as the reward.
All you need to do is to understand your objective to set goals you can attain. Your goals can be about your career, family, health, or even relationship.
As a blogger, setting goals is one way to achieve self-happiness. I split my monthly goals into weekly goals and then into daily goals. I will be the happiest person on planet earth whenever I was able to achieve these goals.
Setting goals is reasonable but always make sure it’s realistic because if it’s not you’re bound to fail, which will bring you sadness.
Volunteer
When you get involved in meaningful volunteer activities and committed to something good and bigger than yourself you have fulfillment, accomplishment, and a great deal of happiness.
The feeling is awesome, amazing, and priceless.
If you’d like to bring some happiness into your life, try bringing it into someone else’s life and making a positive impact. Happiness is intertwined with acts of kindness and gratitude. Seeing less fortunate people around you, can make you more grateful for what you have, and then helping them can trigger a truckload of happiness in your life.
Apart from being happy, volunteering and helping others can help reduce stress, and depression and keep you mentally agile.
Never compare yourself
You’ll never feel happy comparing yours to somebody else. But, why would you compare yourself to another person, when you are different and being different is just fine? In your difference is your uniqueness, and the truth is that nobody else is like you on this planet earth.
The sooner you understand that and start being yourself, the happier you will be.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:14
I understand it’s difficult not to live in self-comparison especially when the majority of us practically live on social media and read a lot of fake stories on the internet. Social media gives us the feeling of being unworthy and inferior because everywhere you look on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, someone is prettier, better, richer, or more flamboyant than you are. It strips us of real happiness.
I think it’s time you understand that Social media, fake people with their fake stories floating all around the internet or in real life around you shouldn’t define your life and the level of your happiness.
NOBODY IS PERFECT. I repeat, NOBODY IS PERFECT.
The perfect, rich, pretty, or handsome people on the internet, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, or any other social media have a lot of flaws they’re trying so hard to filter away or hide.
Being “YOU” always prompts self-fulfillment and it’s enough. Trying to be like Tom or Harry creates double their personalities each on the planet and the worst part is, you’ll never get to live your life and fulfill your peculiar destiny. Rather you’ll keep living and manifesting the life made for other people.
Always focus on what you can do to create the beautiful life you deserve and just don’t do it because someone else is doing it.
When next you try to be someone else, remember no one is perfect, not even MISS PERFECT on Instagram.
Letting go of the past
Stop babysitting your past, let it go. You can only be happy if you let go of the past. There’s a reason, we call it PAST. So let it answer its name and continue being past.
When you had those past-full moments, and it happened you did nothing then, what makes you think you can change it now?
You can’t continue to live in the past or those hurtful moments. What has happened is already over, and you can’t change it and it’s time to let it go.
When you’re stuck and glued to the past, you’re blinded and easily let go of great moments in your life. You only focus on the pains and regrets of past mistakes, failures, and losses, then negative thoughts and anxiety start creeping in depriving you of some lovely moments of peace and happiness.
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
Isaiah 43:18
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is all about accepting life as it is and focusing on the present moment. You don’t need to wallow in the past. Achieving mindfulness is a key skill to master so you can able to focus more on achieving happiness.
One way to achieve mindfulness is to concentrate on your breathing. Start your exercise (jogging and dancing) and yoga routine to stable your breathing.
Set aside time to cherish every breath you take, and allow the calm and silent moment to take over you. Meditating and concentrating on reducing stress and negative thoughts allowing you some real happiness.
One more thing!
There are no fairy tales about Happiness, it doesn’t appear by magic but rather flows from the inside. You alone can cultivate and make it happen. Cultivate enough happiness, so you can have enough to spread around you.
