Valentine’s day is here again, and what better holiday than valentine’s Day to focus on showing yourself a little self-love and compassion? So, my 14th February every year is always a ‘Self-care for Valentine’s day, in fact, it’s my favorite day in the month, and I make sure of it.
I know you want to start it, with sharing gifts and lots of it, yeah, I get it but don’t forget how important it is to fill up our own love tank before you can give love to others. That’s why I am here to remind you.
I am reminding you;
- Valentine’s is one day in a year, and making it about yourself is not selfish.
- You need to start appreciating yourself before you can appreciate others.
- To give more love, you’ll need to constantly replenish yourself.
So this year’s valentine, we are all about giving back to ourselves first, especially for my single girls and ladies. We are taking back valentine’s day and making it about ourselves in a good way.

Before we get started, You’ll need to get your mindset right.
It’s valentine’s day and you know that all kinds of love will be in the air, especially the kind that makes you think ‘it’s that year again, and I’m single’, ‘I’m just going to work, stress myself, today’s not my day’. Shit, I can’t wait for this day to actually end.
You gloat and hide, till the day ends before you get yourself. I get it, it’s hard to feel good when love is always bringing you down or you can’t seem to find it. But you’re missing! Why? You can tap into the moment, and a wave of love and make it about yourself in a loving way! Girl, couple together your body and soul and make it about yourself too.
Don’t get lost on that day! you’re single and not sick! Appreciate the day and love you’re feeling, and channel that feeling to create a greater love for yourself.

Tips for self-care for valentine’s day
Practicing self-care on V-Day shouldn’t just be about doing one small thing for yourself, or trying to pretend the day doesn’t exist. Instead, it should be about being grateful, nurturing yourself, and loving yourself.
These self-care tips will help you get there. I will recommend you make this a checklist on the previous night, before valentine, so you don’t miss a step or if you are an early morning person, you can plan your day out. Trust me, you need to start loving yourself in superb ways.
Start your day with a gratitude prayer
Start the day with prayer, you pray for yourself and to God, with a grateful heart, for no greater love than the one Christ, showed us. List all that you’re grateful about. And trust me, you are good to go!
Make your bed
It’s a self-love day, not a work day, I get it. You can take a few minutes and arrange your bed, sweep your room, and create a neat space. You can’t start your day in a messy room, who does that? Maybe some days, but not today.
Dress for attention
You’re going to work? Or staying at home? Dress for yourself! It can’t be valentine’s day and you want to dress your normal way. it’s not allowed, dress and make it loud, but be comfortable with it. Do you have a nice cologne? Use it. Smell nice, look good, and wear a confident smile while stepping out of the house today.
Eat a good meal
A good meal equals a happy body and a healthy body. So whether it’s breakfast or lunch or dinner, cook good food, and don’t junk it. Try out a new recipe, and make it a balanced diet for you. You can’t cook or don’t want to sweat it? No worry. Take yourself to a good restaurant (there’s no shame in going out on your own) and order good food within your budget, of course. Are you bold enough? Get a table at the center of the restaurant, with a nice dress, enjoy your meal and own the moment.
A movie date
Valentine’s day is not over yet until you have seen a movie. You get to choose where to sit, the movie theater world becomes your oyster.
Nobody is constantly asking questions about the plot, you have the moment to yourself, and you choose what to watch when to start, and when to leave or stop watching.
Whether you choose to go to the cinema or you turn your room into the cinema, it’s your choice. You can relax out with a movie, popcorn, and fresh fruit juice, but sis, no soda! We keeping it healthy, at least for today.
Pamper yourself
No self-care day is complete without a pamper time and spa time. So, if you can swing it, go to an actual spa for a facial or massage (loosen those muscles), get your nails done, or get a nice pedicure.
Don’t want to go to the spa today, no worries. Create your spa day in your bathroom, run a bath, light a candle, put on a face mask, and zen out.
Trust me it’s the best way to unwind and relieve your skin of the day’s stress. You can make it about your night’s routine or a whole day’s task (if you got the time).
Do you, boo
At the end of the day, Valentine’s Day is just another day. You can do everything to celebrate, or you can do absolutely nothing at all.
Want to wallow? Cool. Take yourself on a date? Awesome.
Just know, the day should be about you first. or not you? It’s ok, just do whatever makes your feel happy. If you don’t feel like recognizing valentine’s day? It’s ok, either way, I have got your back.
P.S. Take a second to share this post on socials, I love you!
