Let me ask
When you hear the words “self-care”, what comes to mind first?
You will picture an image of a woman leisurely laid in a fancy bathtub, with rose petals, wearing a facemask and a glass of wine.
I know right? Well, you’re not alone. That’s what we see most time in the movies.
Face masks and bubble baths tend to be picture-perfect ways to show off “self-care”. But, this may be for good reason!
That’s very cheesy and so predictable. Maybe. But very relaxing nonetheless.
Wanna plan a self-care? A luxurious self-care bath is a go-to for relaxation and stress relief. Trust me!
In this post, we cover all there is to know to create the perfect relaxing bath of your dreams.
This will be your ultimate guide to the perfect self-care bath.
10 top guides for your self-care bath
Here are 10 of my top tips for making your bathtime as perfect as possible!
1. Take your time
Do you want it perfect or at least near perfect? What’s the rush? This is not some 5-minute moment time alone!
As it’s important that you took out time to plan this routine, it’s also important to time your bath appropriately.
If you for any reason have outstanding to-dos or time restraints, your relaxation may likely be limited.
I know full relaxation and self-care are goals, but it’ll be best to hit the bath when you have the time to just be alone.
Or better still cancel out, take your time. No plans, no to-dos, no expectations, and no interruptions. Just pure and undiluted peacetime to be alone.
2. Set a good mindset
Your mindset about self-care matters! Just like perfecting your timing, your bathtime mindset matters!
If you are unable to shut off your mind and fully embrace the self-care experience, your bathtime will not give you the benefits you’re hoping for.
You will need a more relaxed mind.
If you’re anxious about anything, it could potentially interfere with your ability to be fully relaxed and be present during your bathtime moment.
That’s not to say, you can’t have a self-care bath with daily life stressors, because you might feel you need it most when you are stressed.
So if you want to, go for it! Anytime!
Just be aware that if you feel like you’re going to struggle to shut off your stress from your mind, your bath mood may be affected.
3. Perfect the temperature
If you get the water temperature right, you set the mood right. Nothing kills your bath mood quite like water which is the wrong temperature. Because you will come in and off the tub, trying to get the temp right.
It needs to be just right.
So test the water frequently as your tub is filling. You can manually tend to the water knob to curate your PERFECT bathtime temperature. But, trust me, it’s worth it.
4. Enjoy luxurious extras
Do you want to know what takes an ordinary bath to the next level? The extras!
Yes, the extra self-care add-ons.
The facial masks and bath bombs, colorful candles and bubbles, books and bath pillows, the rose petals – all of it and other more.
They are little things but make a HUGE difference in upping your bathtime routine. You don’t want to miss them
5. Embrace your senses
When preparing for your perfect bathtime, always check in on all of your senses. They will need to be on it with you, so you get the best of it.
Though you can choose not to tend to all of them, at least consider 3 out of the 5 senses.
Here’s what I mean by embracing your senses; you need something attractive for your senses to be in love.
- For your sight: You will need rose petals in the bath, bath bombs, books, candles, etc.
- For your smell: Bath gels/soaps/bubbles, candles, essential oils, etc.
- For your sound: low Music, your fav Tv shows, meditation tracks, positive affirmations, podcasts, etc.
- For your taste: Tea, lemon water, wine, snacks, desserts, chocolates, etc.
- Touch: Bath pillows, luffas, perfect water temperature, skincare, etc.
6. Choose the right time
I feel that the perfect time to tend for my baths is usually at night because I get the best out of it. Bathing in the morning or afternoon doesn’t give me that relaxed feel.
That doesn’t mean it’ll be the same for you! Do you!
Choosing the right time of day for your self-care bath is very important as deciding to indulge in some bathtime routine.
When is the most relaxed time of your day? Is it morning, after night bed rest? or afternoon? Or evening to wind down?
Whatever works for you, Do it!
7. Add-on skincare
Using bathtime as a time for skincare kills two relaxation birds with one stone.
Make it like a self-care double-whammy.
I, personally, love to put on a face mask, do some body scrub, while I’m in the bath, and finish up my bathtime routine with some moisturizing body lotion.
8. Don’t make it boring
Bath self-care can be boring at some point if you don’t bring the entertainment along it.
So there are lots of ways to keep yourself occupied in the bath. Choose what works for you. Here are some of my favorite bring-on entertainment:
- Netflix and prime got me.
- listening to a podcast
- doing a sudoku puzzle
- flipping through some magazines
- Sticking to positive phone consumption (you wouldn’t want to drag your mental health while tending to it)
Keep it in mind– you can choose to just do nothing if some alone time is your intention for indulging in the bathtime routine. You can take a nap while allowing your body and mind and soul to rest alone.
9. Set your mood
Whatever mood you want to achieve, set the mood and tune to it! ! Make the whole environment about the moment to relax and rest.
You can turn the entire bathroom into your at-home luxury spa and jacuzzi with about anything that can make a difference.
10. No room for stress
There is no space for stress in the tub with you that’s why these tips will guide you through it. Leave all of your daily stressors outside of the bathroom door and shut the door at it. Once you enter your bathtime oasis, free your mind and let it be about the moment.
Got something to do? What’s that? Leave it at the door!
Have a messy kitchen? It’s not there, leave it.
Have a demanding boss? Never heard of them.
This moment is about you. So no stress!
That’s a wrap!
